There is a point beyond which scales tip in favour of the results. We need to identify the Connectors to spread the word, Mavens to convince the people of its utility, and Salesmen to effect sales. But how to find them and how to identify who is who?
One idea I appreciated is the fact that, in order to cause an epidemic of ideas, or a successful word of mouth, concentrate resources on a few key areas. This can be extended even to social media advertising, where the objective first should be to build a sizable number of fans or followers in order to effect interest and enthusiasm in them. Then identify Connectors, Mavens and Salesmen in this group and effect percolation of message from them to others.
Ultimately there is a point beyond which, a majority of people start buying the idea/concept/product. This takes time, patience, creativity and practice.
Onto Freakonomics from tomorrow. Tomorrow is a Thursday, will be visiting an NGO in Juhu to confirm our e-Marketing project with them.
The project is about using online marketing tools in order to create awareness, and optionally attract funds for the NGO. Some ideas like Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Google Maps, and EDMs are in the pipeline. Let's see how we can go about it.
